Ferreghini
The Giovanni estate was founded in 1871 by the great-grandfather of the present
owner, Roberto Ferreghini. The estate comprises 25 acres in the Collio and
Colli Orientali del Friuli subzones, and produces an eclectic portfolio representing
Friuli’s white bastion—Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Grigio,
and Malvasia Istriana—along with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Schioppettino.
Ferreghini’s vineyard sites in the Collio zone are situated on the northern
hillsides of the province of Gorizia, bordering Slovenia, and benefit from
a southern exposure, which provides for grapes of high quality. Those situated
in the Colli Orientali del Friuli area encompass a far more extensive territory,
enabling Ferreghini to articulate the nuances of several distinct microclimates.
Ferreghini further enhances qualitative integrity through various techniques
and approaches: yield restriction; temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks;
fermenting and aging in smallbarrels; and a customized approach to releasing
wines, which allows for sufficient aging in bottle.
